Adapalene is a topical retinoid which is used to treat acne. It was labeled by the FDA in 1997. Its mechanism of action is similar to that of tretinoin-like compounds. Adapalene comes in a 0.1% gel or solution for application once daily in the evening. It works by stopping pimples from forming under the surface of the skin. It is a safe and effective treatment of acne. Studies have shown that 0.1% adapalene gel is as effective as 0.025% tretinoin gel and considerably less irritating. Like tretinoin, adapalene may cause skin irritation and initial exacerbation of acne lesions.
Adapalene Gel is helpful in clearing up pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads by clearing the pores of oil-blocking skin cells. It helps skin cells to shed normally rather than allowing them to accumulate in pores. It can give you the positive results you are seeking. It has the ability to normalize the improper accumulation of skin cells, effectively treating acne by unplugging clogged pores and helping to keep them clear.
It comes under the brand name of Differin®. Differin Gel is an odourless, oil-free, and alcohol-free gel that is specially formulated to meet the special needs of most acne patients’ skin.
The common side effects of adapalene are:
